Aloha Everybody !! I definitely have my own prejudices about Hawaiian music.  Quoted material is other people's comments, my opinions are in red.

Sons of Hawaii

This digitally mastered CD was originally released on vinyl in 1971 and virtually kick-started the Hawaiian revival.  It's been out of print for 23 years - now it's back (and better than ever) !!

"The dreamy music on this album makes me feel like I'm driving along the road to Hana once again. This is definitely not a cheesy compilation of Island wannabe music. Rather it is a collection that reflects the rich Hawaiian culture."
Not fast-paced, but still definitely a stars-4-5.gif (242 bytes)

3.gif (14075 bytes)E O Mai
... this is terrific music, at once traditional in form and musicality, and progressive in content and admixture. The renaissance Hawaiian culture is going through can be seen in the appeal of Kealii's work to Native Hawaiians and Hawaii Residents both, but there is something here for open-minded Mainlanders as well.

VERY POWERFUL.  Hits you right in the gut.  stars-5-0(1).gif (240 bytes) ++

"Beautiful, traditional Hawaiian mele are interwoven with innovative covers from contemporary music."

Gentler music than some of E OMai - excellent !! stars-5-0(1).gif (240 bytes)

I haven't heard this one yet, but it's getting great reviews.   Has a "countryish" sound to most  of the tracks, I think.

6.gif (17455 bytes)Legends Of Ukulele
Haven't heard this one, but it looks like a good introduction to Hawiian Ukulele music.  If you are already a little familiar with Hawaiian Ukelele, then keep on going down the list and check out some of the "Dancing Cat" series of recordings.

This is one of my very favorite Beamer CD's.  Warning   - it will make you homesick for the islands though !!

This is VERY nice - beautiful steel and slack-key guitars working seamlessly together.
